Social Media Tips: What To Look At When Analyzing Your Social Accounts

Here is a deep look at 5 Social Media Tips that can help you analyze your social media accounts.

1. Always start with the basics

Each social medium requires an account setup. If you setup your social accounts as thoroughly as possible you will allow your brand to be recognizable across a few mediums, including your website, and that can be powerful.

  • Facebook: When fleshing out your facebook page we can get caught up with pictures and wall posts, but don’t overlook the basics.  The about sections have fields like Company Overview, Company Description, Mission, Year Founded, Awards, Products, Contact information, Company Website, and you can even create a customized URL for your Facebook page.

  • Twitter: Twitter Allows you to represent your brand with a name, a little bio, a location and a link to your website.  The best part about twitter in my opinion is the customized handle you can create for yourself (ie: @overgostudio). You are communicating with your handle and that is how you will be identified first.

  • Google +:  The world of Google + lets you tell a personal story with taglines, intros & bragging rights. It’s a platform that can allow you to share your brand’s information in a story-like manner which is  different than other platforms.

  • LinkedIn: Company pages on LinkedIn share information that is right to the point, website, industry, company size, company type, headquarters, specialties and you can even list your services.

2. Quality of Activity

To really look at the value of your account you need to analyze the quality of activity. Are you using your company’s facebook page to post “Ryan Gosling won't eat his cereal” viral videos, or are you using it to share original content with your target audience?

  • No Ryan Gosling. I’m going to go out on a ledge here and say Gosling’s cereal videos don’t represent your business. Make sure you are sharing information that is relevant to your business and provides value to your audience.

  • Get to the facts. As a culture, we love consuming information.  Share company related facts with your audience to try and spark a conversation with them.

  • Original Content.  Create white papers or an infographic to share. Having a piece that is truly original separates you from the competition and fosters more of a quality relationship with your audience.
  • Ask Questions.  You have a captive audience, why don’t you do something with it? Engage with them by asking questions.  You can start polls about topics and ask opinions on your products or services. If you have an audience, use them to benefit your brand by engaging with them and learning.

3. Quantity of activity

Lets turn to the quantity of activity on each account. Simply what I mean by this is, How active are you?

  • Infrequent Activity.  Its hard to keep up with social accounts and as a result they can suffer from the lack of posting, tweeting etc. If this fate is accepted, your account will suffer.  Its called SOCIAL media for a reason.

  • Weekly Activity.  For those of us without a band of people heading our social accounts this is about the norm. Activity a few times a week is beneficial if you are sharing quality content with your audience.

  • Daily Activity.  This is impressive and it is the best option.  Connecting with your audience multiple times a day keeps your brand top of mind. When you are active on your social accounts, more people become aware of your account and in turn you will see your audience grow.

4. Account Branding

Having a consistent brand across your social accounts and website demonstrates authority and trustworthiness to your visitors. Each social media account allows for personalized branding.

  • Facebook: Represent your company with a profile picture and a cover photo, these are the first things visitors will see when they get to your page. Take it a step further and create photo albums as well as tabs that can communicate services, products or offers that are on your website.

  • Twitter: Show off your twitter bird self with a customized background.  Place your logo in your background or maybe even list out some services. Upload a profile and a cover photo too. Its always a good idea to tweet out pictures and videos to further your brand awareness on Twitter.

  • Google +: Have you seen the new Google + Cover photo? It is Huge!  Take advantage of it and create an image that communicates your brand. Don’t forget a profile picture and again, take advantage of photo albums and video uploads.

  • LinkedIn: Company Pages on LinkedIn, allow you to almost build a duplicate website. You can upload a cover photo, up to 3 images that can rotate in the services banner, individual images can be placed next to a description of each service and you can upload videos.

5. Account Reach

Last but not least, look at the reach of each social account you have. How many followers/friends/connections/likes do you have?

  • Minimal Reach.  Having a minimal reach is nothing to worry about, everyone began at zero at some point (unless you’re Justin Bieber). Don’t get discouraged and keep at it by practicing the 4 previous tips mentioned.

  • Growing Your Account.  In addition to practicing the previous tips, be up to speed with the lingo and expectations of each account.  There is no set of rules per se but there are many thriving social media platforms because each one offers something unique, make sure you understand what that is.

  • Large Reach. Having a large reach is something to be proud of, you must of worked hard (or you’re Justin Bieber) to grow that account. Don’t let that reach go to waste. Take advantage of it and communicate with your audience, find out what they think of your products/services, what they would like to see in the future and give them advice and quality conversation like you would in a face to face conversation.

These social media tips will help you to analyze each of your social accounts.  The goal of analyzing your accounts is to provide you with a clear view of how your accounts are performing and what you need to do to keep up the current performance or grow the performance. You may learn that there is a time and a place for aunt Sharon’s new baby pictures, and its not your company’s facebook wall.
