Inbound Marketing Services: Call-To-Action Lessons From a Pop Song

Carly Rae Jepsen is a teenager whose insanely catchy song, Call Me Maybe, has made it big. Really the only lyrics in the whole song go as follows, “Hey I just met you, and this is crazy, but here’s my number, so call me maybe.” You probably don’t understand what’s so catchy about it if you haven’t heard the song, so let me include it so you can understand the greatness that is Call Me Maybe.

So now that you know what the song is all about. Let’s talk about the lyrics and what the heck this has to do with inbound marketing. Here’s the problem with Carly… she tells this stud muffin that she thinks is so attractive to call her… maybe. Really Carly? I give you props for giving a guy your number, but asking him to
maybe call you ruins the entire thing.

Sure, it sounds great in a song and if she had said, “call me, definitely” she may have come off as a bit pushy. But as inbound marketers, we use calls to action as our version of giving out our number. We want our visitors to create a relationship with us but downloading an offer.

A catchy CTA involves telling your customers what to do. Your CTA needs to clearly identify your offer. Just like this song, you want your CTA to be catchy, direct,  and stand out from your page. You want it to tell your customer what your offer is and that they need to click that CTA in order to receive it.

The goal for CTA’s is high-click through rates and conversion rates. You aren’t going to get that from asking them to do something, you need to tell them. So tell your customers “Hey I just met you, and this crazy, but here’s my CTA, so click me definitely.” 5 Keys To Generating Leads
