Utilizing 140 Characters in your Twitter Marketing Strategy

Make sure you are using hashtags.  Hashtags will group your tweet into a conversation with other tweets. So if you tweet #inboundmarketing, you will find that tweet amongst a ton of others who are also tweeting about #inboundmarketing. This helps with your twitter marketing because you can tweet your ideas and then associate them with a hashtag without having to waste any characters describing what it is you are tweeting about. For example:

“More qualified leads with lower costs #inboundmarketing”

“I love my job #inboundmarketing”

“Have you read the newest blog on #inboundmarketing ?”

Hashtags aside, your twitter marketing can really pack a punch if you start engaging with others directly.  When you @ another twitter user it would be as if you have entered a direct line of conversation with them and everyone else can see that conversation too. If everyone else can see it, that means the floor is open for others to join in and contribute to the conversation- so open up the floor!

Hey @Tweetybird what did you think of Jordan in #spacejam?

Can’t wait to see you are #inbound13 @boston4life

Thanks @SnowWhite, can’t wait to eat the bushel of apples you sent!

In your Twitter Marketing start sharing content that is relevant to your business. If you run a dog grooming company tweet informational content out to your audience like pictures of recently groomed dogs or articles by none other than Cesar Millan and while doing so, open up the lines of twitter communication with the @. For Example:

@ShellyB’s yorkie came in for a doggie manicure- look how cute (picture url)

Great piece by @ceasarmilan. 10 reasons dogs hate water (link to article)

Check us out-the staff and @codyrg’s lab after a bath! (picture url)

The more content you share in your twitter marketing the better because we are a sharing culture, we love to show things to our friends, family and coworkers that we find on the internet.

Urls are not usually short and sweet. They can go over 140 characters but this does not mean you need to waste your tweet on 1 single link. Thanks to link shortening services like bitly.com, you can shorten any link.  Like this link here- http://bit.ly/16Q2Ucq go ahead and click it- it is a link to one of our blog articles and the previous url was well over 140 characters. So in your twitter marketing to take full advantage of the allotted 140 characters, shorten your links so you leave some room to tell me what what your link is all about.
