This week on New Girl and The Mindy Project we saw two ways to have a huge identity crisis. On the New Girl, the character Schmidt wanted to fit in with his trendy, young neighbors. So,he threw on a short sleeved t-shirt with an ironic saying and a scarf and attempted to be cool. His over the top efforts however made him look completely uncool to his neighbors. I’m assuming the stench of desperation emanating from him didn’t help either. On the Mindy Project, a doctor in her 30’s tries to hit the club scene again with her 20-something secretary. Clearly out of place and desperate, she attempts to hit on guys and get into the VIP section.
So what do these crazy characters and their silly identity crisis’ have to do with inbound marketing? Not a thing, I just wanted to talk about my favorite shows… just kidding. An identity crisis can happen in your inbound marketing strategy as well if you don’t think about your audience before you start planning.
The best tip is to plan, plan, plan!
If you start out with those questions in mind and plan your entire strategy around them, I can 99.9% promise you won’t wind up in hipster gear or a club, also known as no man’s land where no leads and no traffic can ever be found!
