Grow Your Business Blog

How long should my Facebook video be? I get this question a lot. My answer is always, "It depends." It depends on your audience. It depends on what you're talking about. It depends on what you are trying to achieve. Are you teaching? Are you trying to sell? It depends, it depends, it depends.

This is never a satisfactory answer, really. But recently, Buzzsumo did a study of 100 million videos on Facebook. A hundred million videos, that's a lot. I don't know if you have seen the study but it's pretty interesting and it gives some actual numbers.

Watch this short video or read the article below it.

Here are the averages, but again, it always depends on your situation but it's good to know.

Pre-recorded Facebook Video optimal length

Buzzsumo says that for a non-Facebook live video, the optimum duration is 60 to 90 seconds. Beyond that, an interaction starts to fall off. For really short videos, surprisingly, 15 seconds don't get much interaction at all.

Facebook Live Video Optimal Length

Now for Facebook live, Buzzsumo said their study revealed that about 15 minutes is the optimal length for a Facebook live video. And that makes sense, because with Facebook live you're interacting with your audience.

facebook video length depends on audience and message

That's all I have for today. I want to stay under 60 seconds so I can stay within the optimum video length.

Go ahead and test this for yourself. I hope this helps you improve your Facebook Video performance and engagement.
