A call to action is a button on your website that directs visitors to one of your downloadable offers. They can go on any page of the your website in the side bar, header, main module, etc.
Step One:
The first step is to decide the topic of the Call to Action. What do you want to prompt the viewer to do? You ideally want the CTA to trigger an emotional reaction and cause the viewer to click it. Usually you will have words in the CTA that they are drawn towards like click here, buy now, download here, register, etc. If you give the viewer an incentive to click the button you’re creating an offer that they won’t refuse!
Step Two:
The second step is to decide what style the Call to Action should be. The best way to do this is to look on the client’s website and scope out their branding. Make a note of what colors and styles they use on their site before you begin creating the button. Looking at the client’s logo helps to decipher the color scheme. It’s also essential to look at a client’s business and what they offer so you can come to a conclusion on the style that fits.
Step Three:
The third step is to choose a font which is also something you can get from the client’s website or newsletters. For example, a client’s website may have a smooth edged font which means you should keep with the same style smooth edged font. It wouldn't go with the overall theme of the business if the font of the call to action had sharp edges.
Step Four:
Step four is to make sure your Call to Action has a clear message. Don't be too wordy! Too much text on a Call to Action can be confusing. You want the viewer to be able to see the Call to Action and in a few seconds know what they are clicking on. Trial and error comes into play with CTAs because you may find some just don't work as well as others. and error may be your best guide for finding the perfect call to action for your business or target market.
Step Five:
Finalize your Call to Action by double checking it goes well with the area it is being placed in. Whether it be a website, email, newsletter, blog, or social network. The Call to Action should stand out but not look out of place. Have it complement the space it is utilizing.
